About Us
Welcome to our school web site!
We hope this will be an interesting and entertaining way to keep parents, children, staff, governors and friends up to date with our lively and forward-looking school. We would also like to encourage you to get closely involved with the school, as we firmly believe that children’s education and well being prosper when there are strong links between school and the wider community. Brackensdale Junior School is situated on the Mackworth Estate close to the centre of the city of Derby. It was opened in 1954. The accommodation is spacious and includes a Sports Hall, separate Dining Hall, Library and Computer Room. We have two playgrounds and extensive playing fields.
Brackensdale as an Enhanced Resource Community Junior School.
In September 2000 Brackensdale Junior School became an Enhanced Resource for children with communication difficulties. This means that additional resources are being provided to the school by the Local Authority, so that the environment, curriculum and staffing can be improved in ways which would enable children with communication difficulties to be educated with other mainstream children. We have developed an inclusive environment, which benefits all the children within the school.
We have children with communication difficulties in all classes (maximum 4 per class) each class has at least one full time teaching assistant working alongside the teacher. In addition the school Inclusion Manager and a non-class based Special Needs Teacher. There are two new classrooms being built this summer to house our specialist class for severely autistic children. These will be completed in the Autumn Term and will add an extra dimension to our school.
